First Things First, Study Some Basic Terms
These basic terms are generally used throughout an entire MUN conference. Familiarising yourself with them helps you gain pertinent information on how MUN works. A link to our MUN Glossary is sited down below.
1. Session Begins : Roll Call
When a delegate's country's name is called, he or she may respond "present" or "present and voting." A delegate responding "present and voting" may not abstain on a substantive vote.
2. Opening Speeches
After Roll Call has elapsed, each delegate gives a one-minute speech about his/her position on the committee question.
3. Lobbying Session
The Chair will give the delegates time to discuss the topic question and draft a resolution with other delegates.
4. Vetting
When time is up, the main submitter must submit a resolution to the Chair for vetting.
5. After Vetting : Debate
The Chair calls for the main submitter to read aloud the operative clauses of his/her resolution.
6. Confused with Terms? : Points of Clarification
After the main submitter has finished reading all operative clauses of a resolution, the Chair now asks the House if there is any point needed to be clarified. Remember to converse through the Chair only.
*Could the Chair please ask the delegate of (B) that...?*
*The delegate of (A) would like to ask the delegate of (B) through the chair,....?*
*Could the Chair please ask the delegate of (B) that...?*
*The delegate of (A) would like to ask the delegate of (B) through the chair,....?*
7. Need More Details? : Points of Information
When there are no more points to be clarified, the main submitter then gives a FOR speech to his/her resolution. After the FOR speech is done, the Chair now asks the House if there is any delegate wishes to seek for further explanation of any clause to the resolution as a whole. Remember to converse through the Chair only.
*Could the Chair please ask the delegate of (B) that...?*
*The delegate of (A) would like to ask the delegate of (B) through the chair,....?*

8. A Chance to Give Opinions : Speeches
After the main submitter of a resolution leaves the floor, now is the chance for any delegate wishes to speak FOR/AGAINST the resolution to come up and give his/her speech. Points of Information are also encouraged after the speech is finished.
9. Finally : Voting Procedure
After enough FOR/AGAINST speeches of a resolution are heard, a proposal to move onto voting procedure will be made. When voting, delegates will raise the placards according to his/her voting preferences. Steps 5-9 will be applied to every resolution being debated within the committee.
